Commonly, after few days with 86-95 Fahrenheit degrees warm air close the Earth inosculate with colder air coming from Scandinavia. Together it is create monstrous, one-two days long storm with lightning. The most massive gales in polish history happened roughly 90 years ago. First one in July 1928 over capital and neighborhood. That storm causes colossal material losses.

There is no summary report but regional press broke the news about 62 victims , over 150 injured, destroyed apartments, telegraph poles and trees. Lightning bolts caused over 100 houses fires. Second huge gale happened in July 1931 near Lublin. Local media break the news about wind blowing at a speed of 500 km/h. Current one of the largest gale happened betwixt Wrocław and Łódź in 23rd of July 2009 – this two places are over 200 km away from themselves. Gale (known as “Derecho”) leads to death of 10 people and 100 wounded. In Poland gales with lightning are yearly incident. Highest recurrence of gales is in hilly part of country – in zones known as Żywiecczyzna, Bieszczady Mountains and Tatra Mountains it happen roughly 35 days per year. Lowest frequency is in the northern part – one in the 18 days.
Other interesting incidents are storms with hail. But what should happen to create that type of gale? 65 of 68 hailstorms happen when temperature was at least 15 Celsius degrees and atmospheric pressure is roughly 850 hPA. Second factor of recurrence of hail is proximity of weather front with equator and polar air masses. How can we be sure that our break won’t be disorganized by storm? Choose late August days or early June, choose another state for a expedition or take a fancy to wintertime sports.
